Final Location Folio Rationale

THE IDEA
I watching the news one night and they showed a girl being pushed out of a car then ran over then heaps of cars just driving past, this is where my original idea for my folio came from. I went out and tried to capture people not helping people in need such as a blind man dropping his cain, a man falling on crutches and old people trying to cross the road. I started shooting this series and i found from the first shot that everyone helped. I then found myself with a few images of people helping others just out of common curtsy. This is where my final theme of common curtsy came from. I then went to many different locations around canberra with Burkey falling on his crutches creating the series for my folio.

SELF ANALYSIS/CRITIQUE
I believe the idea around the series is great as it is real documentary nothing is truly setup you don't know what is going to happen, if people are going to help or not. The technical qualities are not the greatest such as angle, exposure etc, but the photos are about the content and idea rather than the quality as it not set up like a studio shot. I believe the way i have presented the photographs is good as each photo as almost a short story/mini series rather than just a 6 A3 photos. I don't think i could tell the story with just a series of 6 A3s. Also mounting on foam core is better as it doesn't make it so much a very precious artwork but more stating a point.

First Folio Shots

My folio format will be a bit different consisting of 6 A3 images containing 6 photos in each rather than then normal 6 A3's.

Portrait

Just a few to choose from for my first portrait. It was very hard to get an out of focus background as my background just wasn't big enough.

And YES! i no it is my girlfriend again, i had a model come in and just didnt work out as he just plainly could not model. Of course Carissa was there to save the day =]

Reshoot

I have decided to rethink my product work and redo almost everything i am just not happy with my results. They are to random as a series and i ma not happy with some of the products being very very reflective making it very hard to get a good photo. I am now just going to shoot the different coffee rather than the products such as grinders etc. Here are the shots i have taken so far.

NEW proposal

I have Decided to ditch the skating idea for my final folio in location. I was watching the news the other night and they were showing a clip of a woman being thrown out of a car the ran over, not just that but no one stopped to help her on the road but just drove around her.

I have now decided that my topic for my final folio will be "Common Curtsy". The photos will include different people in need of a hand being ignored around canberra. This is an issue that happens way to often and i am going to document this in the ACT community.

Bungendore & Braidwood

On this Field trip i finally figured out that the best way to photograph documentary/social commentary is to be alone while shooting. As i got to Braidwood i walked off alone and found it much better and easier as i could stay focused and i also found it easier to talk to people as i was less intimidating.

Idea for Personal Folio

I have chosen to document the underground street rollerblading. I have chosen this because it is a sport that not many people even know exist and i have a large part in this sport, this gives me access to many different areas of the sport. There is alot of tension in this sport as many street spots that rollerbladers skate often involve getting kicked out by security guards or even the police. Also even when skating the skate parks their is a rivalry between the skateboarders and the rollerbladers. I have set myself to show and document the lifestyle of a street rollerblader.

Queenbean Shoot

Queenbean was harder to shoot than civic as it was a horrible windy cold day with less people. Queenbean has alot of charater but unforntly i was unable to capture this very well. Maybe next time. I also set myself a challenge by using a fixed 50mm lens.

Garema Place Shoot

Garema Place in the city was great, it was a sunny day lots of poeple around to shoot i got most the shots using a longer lens ( 70-200mm).
